Its spring in DK

I called DK a tropical climate to a friend the other day and she laughed at me. But what I meant is that - it doesn't get too hot and it doesn't get too cold. Most plants hang in there through the winter months, and some little flower always seems to be opening up. I'm thinking that's why the spiders are so large as well - no killing winters so each year they just get bigger...and bigger.

I've been wanted to buy a few plants and since I'm hosting playgroup tomorrow, I thought it was as good a time as any to go out and get some.

I got a couple of cute planters that I think will look nice at our place in MN, and a nice big rosemary plant. I've been using dried rosemary in my cooking. Even in soup-ish dishes it never really re-hydrates, and its like chewing on tiny sticks. Now I'll be able to use fresh.

The other night I made a Rachael Ray pan gravy with a splash of red wine in lieu of buying the pre-made MSG laden gravy that they sell here. It was pretty tasty along with frickadellers.

Here is a picture of my skinny roasted eggplants for bababganoosh. The Good - the skins came off very very easy (one big piece), and there wasn't a lot of messy juice. The Bad - the eggplant was a bit dry, so the babaganoosh was not as runny as I like (you can only add so much olive oil and lemon juice). I know the juice can be a bit bitter, but from now on only chubby eggplants for me.

And now that spring is here, biking Pete to school has been a bit more pleasant. Except yesterday, when I was passed on the bike trail by a gray-haired old lady, I'd say she was Grandma Verda's age. I wasn't even pulling the trailer at the time.
