All Homemade & Almost Homemade

This morning I made oatmeal - boiled rolled oats, not instant - for the first time in my life. I added a bit of butter while cooking, and topped it off with brown sugar and milk. It was really really good.

In MN I'd choke down a bowl of instant oatmeal for "my health", not for its flavor. See, I've had an aversion to oatmeal in general since the old family camping days when I had to eat peach flavored instant oatmeal, sometimes with dehydrated peach chunks - ahhhh, gag me with a cereal spoon. (I know you thought you were giving us a treat mom, but for me at least it was torture.)

Dinner the other night was half homemade, half pre-made. I whipped up some black beans again (only takes one night of soaking and 3 hours of boling the next day, no sweat man), and served them with Cevapcici (and rice and veggies). These little things caught my eye at the store becuase the looked like sausages, and sauage was one of Pete's staples at home. The bag told me that these were Greek spicy (mustard spice) minced meat rolls made with quality (I love that word) ground beef. They turned out to be a winner with both Rich and Pete (and me too).

I understand your oatmeal trauma! Carole would add brown sugar and chocolate chips to get us to eat it!
