Crop Art and Scarecrows

Crop art is probably my favorite thing at the state fair. Now you might think – if that is your favorite thing then the fair MUST suck. But no no no, I like art (and it IS art), and I like that most often it is humorous in a slightly dark way. I mean, you can’t help but look at Dick and think true…but funny. Bjork and Dolly (Dolly has corn husk hair that looks surprisingly real) – why? As for Spam, in the most recent Rake magazine there is an article on Faith Farrell. She is a meat artist (you need to read the article at http://www.rakemag.com/stories/section_detail.aspx?itemID=35890&catID=147&SelectCatID=147). Summed up, she won the state and national Spam recipe contest last year. Because winning excludes her from competing this year, she decided to fulfill her desire with beans and seeds.

I picked up Live Current Volume 1 (good listening!), and enjoyed the Energy building. Even Rich though the sustainable yard (dream dream) was a neat idea. The fine arts building was fine art, although I prefer the creative arts building and young adult art. Its seems more tormented and anguished. I also like checking out the displays around the horticulture building; they have given me a few ideas like riverbank grape vine balls, and a hen & chick topiary.

Last week I also finished up The Evidence Against Her. I pretty much just made it through the book, waiting for some big (or tragic) event. Didn’t happen. There was no real plot, just pages into the thinking and lives of about 6 people (more or less, I don't really care at this point). I read the book jacket and it explained why the book was titled as such, but it was so unconvincing that I forgot what it said. Overall – for me it was not awful, but not great. Last week I also read The Tree Girl by T.A. Barron - youing adult fiction and good for the age group. Now I'm reading - pretty quickly - an Ann Perry mystery. Its surprisingly good.
