Water Water Everywhere

Ahhh, we're home (kind of - living at my mom's place until we can get back into our home - waiting for the house sitters to move out and the container to arrive)...limbo continues.

But culture shock? That box can be checked off. Since I needed to...had to, must have... a new computer we stopped by a big old blue and white box store - you know THE one - to see what they had to offer. We did this on day 2 of being back and all I could think of was - man the people here are BIG.

After that we headed on over to the grocery store. We started in produce - as all stores do - no problem. Although my organic peeled baby carrots turned out to be slimy and not so appealing. I'm going to need to find a yummy and consistent carrot source.

Then it was on to the dairy area where everything began to fall apart. I asked my son, would you like some pudding? He of course said yes. I walked on over to the 20 or so choices and stared at artificial this, sugar free that...what the hell? Finally, down on the bottom, in a little tub, it called out to me...all natural. I had some that night and it was GOOD.

And that cereal isle...because my son has nut and egg allergies and is also a picky eater (because of the food allergies) and because I didn't want sugar to be the number 2 ingredient it came down to 2 choices. Cheerios or Life. We (I) chose Life...Peter was still whining about the Lucky Charms and Froot Loops.

When I was first in Denmark, I dreamed about already peeled carrots and canned soup. These things no longer have a hold on me. Do you see me looking right through you pre-made-chopped-and-convinietly-frozen-veg table-with-shrimp-and-pasta-make-in-10-minutes-dinner.

And just as my frustration with the grocery store builds, yesterday I began reading The Omnivore's Dilemma. Why not add a little flame to the fire right?

Ah! So you are darned if you do and darned if you don't!

I hope you continue blogging, because it is going to be very interesting to hear how life is like 'on the other side'!

Welcome back! You know if you wait a few weeks on the computer there should be tons of back to school sales.
