Recent Food Experiements

Cornbread Scones with Chili Sauce - I made a vegetarian version of the chili by using black-eyed peas and frozen corn. However, the frozen corn didn't pop in my mouth, instead it stuck to my teeth. Fresh is the only way to go with corn.

Modified Cheesecake - now I know why a springform pan is optimal. It flattened back down when cooled, but I'm still not making one of these again, its tasted off somehow. It will have to remain a US treat.

And, last week I inherited a rice cooker from an expat who recently left. I've made rice twice already.

Love It!

I went to Bilka again - its like self torture. I'm looking for a butter dish and another coat rack. I decided that 9 am (the time they open) on a Wednesday morning (since I had the car and was kid-free), was my sanest option.

I parked, and entered the giant labyrinth, and didn't find what I was looking for. I decided to walk through a cashiers aisle that was open - how else am I supposed to get out right? No, she said. You can't go this was, you have to go to Information to get out. Fine.

I went to Information (another walk across the store), walked up to the green gate, which did not open automatically, so I pushed it open. THEN the lady from behind the counter looked at me. She said - you need to close the gate. I need to see you first. So I laid my arms on the counter and said - Well, here I am. What do you want to talk about? I dont know if she said anything - becuase I just walked away.

I am NEVER EVER going there again. Bilka Bites.

WTF? (What The F...?) I don't understand why they wouldn't let you walk out through the cashiers exit? And why they were ordering you about?

I am sorry luv, but they were just plain rude to you. I can't stand the officious idiots I meet running supermarkets, what do they they are? Rocket scientists? Mmmm. Sorry, but am now enraged on your behalf.

I have had similarly discouraging treatment in many branches of 'Bog og Idé' to the point where I won't shop there any more.

Thank you. Its nice to have a someone on my side. When I told this story to a Danish friend she simply said - you can't leave that way without buying anything. And all I can say is - I refuse to assimilate to that mentality so easily.
