Long ago in mid-September, I ordered a book from Amazon.co.uk. I ordered it in conjunction with a book for Peter that was on back order. Well, after many weeks, they emailed me to say that Peter's book was unobtainable, and that they'd be shipping mine off promptly.
I waited for it to show up in our mailbox. Nope.
I waited for a slip from Royal mail telling me to pick it up at the local post house. Nope.
We went on a two week vacation. Still no book. I went down to the post house this afternoon, and the young man working the register said that he remembered the package, but that they had likely sent it back to the main Royal mail office to be sent back to Amazon. Bummer.
Honestly, I shouldn't have doubted Amazon's shipping ability. I should have instead questioned the Royal mail's...how to put it...delivery competence (or rules, did you know that if all names are not legibly posted on the outside of your mailbox, you just won't get mail. You'd think an address is an address, but no).
I got home and whisked of an email to Amazon, asking if they thought they might know where my package is hiding. I really wasn't expecting a - We have it here reply. I was more expecting a - It got to DK, so now - really sorry (frown smile) - its out of our hands.
But instead - already! - I got a - Something seems to have gone awry with your order, we're sending you off a new book, no charge, now.
Wow!
