Saturday Shopping

Oh - we were out of food again. Thursday afternoon was a holiday (Constitution Day) and most shops were closed. Friday I was busy with playgroup. So, Saturday morning was my best chance to buy groceries. I left the house at 8:30, and when I got to Bilka it was just the way I liked it - me and the old people.

I headed for the very back corner of the store first. I needed toilet paper (20 rolls $14, floor cleaner $8, wood polish $10, and laundry detergent $16…I saw charcoal for $20 a bag, no wonder Rich likes to buy some when he’s in Germany). Unfortunately I spent so much time back there, by the time I got out, it wasn't just me and the old people anymore, it was me and the rest of the city. !^&%$#@!

And on top of that they didn't have most of the food that I wanted anyway, so I had to head on over to another store to finish my shopping. It was a now or never decision, I hate seeing my child starve, so...off I went.

Apples are a key item in our diet. Peter will eat them, and Rich “NEEDS” to have one a day (any other fruit won’t do; although one day I did trade him a banana for an apple – for Pete’s sake literally). Well, turns out apple season is winding down in favor of other fruits that are in season – like nectarines. I don’t have a problem with this. Its just convincing the boys that a nectarine can…should…must replace and apple for a month or two. Other things in season now are Danish strawberries (they look like the strawberries you pick in the forest, and they don’t use chemicals on them), Danish radishes, and Danish new potatoes (like tiny Yukon golds, yummy).

It was our 10th year anniversary on Friday. Rich grilled a beef brisket/roast sort of thing that is quite popular here, and served it with new potatoes, sautéed mushrooms and onions, tomato with mozzarella, and red wine. It was better than any dinner we could have had at a restaurant here. Plus we had leftovers for two days.

Now plumber Thomas is on his way over. Ever since we moved in, flushing the toilet will make the shower drain gurgle. I thought - It must be a European crappy kinda drain thing. Well now that same sound has moved into the kitchen sink - I can't handle that, way too gross.
