Beach Finds

We visited Sonderby Cliff near Assens on Saturday. Denmark (or more generally the Baltic Sea region) is known for its amber, and Saturday morning I read that you could find some on this beach, not too far from where we live. That's enough of a reason for me, so off we went.

Well, we found two small pieces, and then right before we left I found a larger one (maybe 4 inches wide) with a small fossil imprint within it. The amber resembles another yellow colored rock also found on the beach. It was the imprint that made me pick up this piece, otherwise I thought was going to be just another yellow colored rock. Lucky find!

You will also find pieces of sandstone on the beaches here. It always looks oddly out-of-place. But its normal.

And I guess this crab (one of the bigger ones I've seen) didn't have a chance. He's bleached out and in the very center of the photo.

Here I used a shell that was already broken for the end to a bookmark I made. The pattern is called Ocean Waves (or something like that). I wanted to use a clam shell but when trying to drill a hole in them they kept breaking apart. Very strong but brittle at the same time. So on Sunday when we visited another beach I was on the lookout for things with holes already in them.
