hodge·podge

Been doing a bit of this and a little of that lately. Yesterday I push-mowed the yard. I've been purposefully avoiding the infertile wet spot in the back. Who needs to plant flowers when these are already there. Rich goes back and forth on growing our own tomatoes. We brought the grow boxes with, but decided we didn't want to spend $80 on potting soil. Plus we go to the market every weekend for fresh veggies, so why not just buy them. Then this weekend we were at a friends who has her tomatoes in a greenhouse. She said that that's the only way to have your own. Otherwise the climate is just too wet to grown them - they mold and rot out in the open.

Pete and I were downtown for playgroup on Friday. We strolled down a cozy little walking street and saw this...someone has a prettier bike than me! There is actually a whole blog devoted to DK cycle chicks.

Playgroup was at the Brandts Museum. The museum mainly has contemporary art exhibits that change (I'd *kinda* compare it to the Walker). Right now there is a sensory exhibit for children. Its a few different rooms on the six senses. It was small, but fun, and a nice change from zoos and playgrounds. We were not allowed to take photos, but I had to take this. On a bulletin board tucked away on the top floor, there was this map. It was of *potentially* phallic sculpture throughout Odense. I think it would be fun to know more about each sculpture's original vision. I'm sure they were not all intended to be interpreted quite like this.

And why not end with some food. After hearing about it, and seeing it from a distance, I finally made it into the natural foods store in downtown Odense. Its just like Wheatsfield Coop in Ames, Iowa (that's the Wheatfield I knew, I think they may have moved and/or remodeled since we lived there). They had the best selection of canned beans I've seen yet, plus lots of different rice and grains, soy milk, and tofu (and tofu-like) *substances*...maybe products is a more appealing word. Other than tofu and Quorn, I don't eat "meat-like" products.
