What do you do all day?

That's what I wondered about housewives, when I was working, especially if the kids were in school. Well, this is what I do now that Pete is in school, and I am a hjemmega (that's a Danish housewife - I'm told it's a very good thing to be, less than 20% of Danish couples have one person that doesn't work. Quite frankly, most people can't afford not to have both people working).

After the morning snuggle, we get up, not too early and not too late - about 7:15.

Pete eats while I get ready, pack his two lunches, and hook up the bike and trailer.

After 8:30 we head out. Dropping him off at school takes a while. I have to get him settled in (put on his slippers), talk the grown-up (let her know that he is there), and find a place to park the trailer. Then I head home.

Around 9:30 I get home, make some coffee, and check my email. (This morning I'm drinking German coffee and eating homemade cornbread with butter and Lauterbach honey, mmmmm.)

Then the rest of the day just kinda goes by. Like today, I think I'll shell some edamame, and then maybe start on our taxes. Edamame for sure, taxes maybe.

Around 3:00 it's time to hop on the bike again and go get Pete.

Now I know what the shoulder hunch meant when I asked housewives what they did all day - Whatever we want to do.

I wish everyone got a chance to be a housewife for a while. My chances have come and gone a lot over the years. ;-D
