Saturday Night – Italian in Copenhagen. I sampled Rich’s anti pasta plate which was a mix of dried meats, tomato-mozzarella-olive oil, lox, cheese, olives, and maybe a tuna-caper sauce. I had the rigatoni with beef, mushrooms, and truffle sauce (quite tasty, I’m sad that I couldn’t fit it all in my belly). Rich had the fish ravioli with a seafood sauce. And we split a nice red wine.
Sunday in Odense – Mama’s Pizza. We shared the anti past platter. This one had a nice arugula salad. Then we split a pizza (the crust was perfect – I’m guessing it was done on a stone) and had some beer. Guess what – bacon on pizza is YUMMY.
Monday night – Dinner at a co-worker’s home - Arnie and Karen. They lived about half an hour from Odense in a small town. They had a gorgeous yard, chickens, and a new kitten. We had chicken wrapped in bacon (not chicken from the yard, I asked), a vegetable salad (with fennel – yum), and good bread and wine. I asked Arnie if they had wetland regulations. He said yes, water quality is very important to protect since they get their drinking water from groundwater and because they don’t treat the water, only aerate it. The Danes are generally anti-chemical.
Tuesday night – Thai take-away eaten in-hotel. We had Tex-Mex for lunch, and when I asked Rich if his food was spicy he said that nothing in Denmark is really. But the Thai was, even for him.
Wednesday – We went to Bones, an American style burger joint that advertised real/genuine Heinz ketchup and put little Denmark flags on tables where the Danish natives were eating. The salad bar was like our olive bar (cheese, olives, onions, artichokes). My burger was tasty - it had bacon on it. There was a general bacon theme to the whole week.
Thursday – Dinner in Hamburg, Germany. Pork steak (schnitzel), fried egg, salad, and potatoes with - yep – bacon.
