Weeds Season 2 (yuck)

Last night I finished watching Weeds Season 2. Short summary – I wasn’t real crazy about Season 1, and I won’t be watching Season 3.

Long Summary - Even if it is fiction, and maybe I shouldn’t take the people or the plot seriously, its not funny to me. The “plot” is – the breadwinner husband of a family living in an upper class neighborhood in CA dies suddenly from a heart attack. I guess the wife has NO skills what-so-ever, and even though she really doesn’t like the neighborhood or the kid’s schools, for some reason she feels compelled to maintain her "lifestyle" (big house, expensive SUV, maid). I don't know why, she doesn't associated with anyone, anyway. She gets by by becoming a pot dealer. She herself does not use drugs (except for ingesting large quantities of red wine), and she expects her children to not us drugs as well – even though she basically advocates them by her actions.

For Books – Right now I’m reading I’ll Take You There by Joyce Carol Oats. I’ve read quite a few of her books now and she is - of course - a superb writer. But my two favorites are The Falls, and her young adult novel – Small Avalanches and Other Stories. Small Avalanches is a compilation of short stories about teen girls. It’s pretty much what you’d warn your daughter about, but the way she’s written it, it would be hard for a girl not to consider it seriously. Check out the editorial review on amazon.com.
