Pilfered

These were pilfered from my boss's garden this past week while he was out of town. I work in an office connected to his home; that's how I was able to do this.

The itty bitty carrots were then fed to my kid on the way home from school. And coincidentally - they made rabbit hats that day.

This is what my desk at works looks like. Papers and food.

So kind of a landscape moment occurred this past week - I bought lettuce. I have not bought lettuce since moving back. I recently learned about lettuce production in "In Defence of Food" and now knowing ALL the effort and energy and band aids that go into getting it from California to MN...even the organic kind...I no longer could put it in my cart. Even last weekend, when we were having guests over, and I said to myself 'serving a salad would be nice'...I could not physically put the stuff in my cart.

BUT, this past week I found local lettuce. I bought it because I thought some greens would be nice, and to show my support for this local business. It came with its own root ball. That was a first for me.

And that same day that I bought the lettuce and other things (like mushrooms, meat, and deli bread - generally fresh things located on the periphery of the store) I got this coupon with my receipt.

Seems that their computer noticed how I neglected to shop from the inside of the store which contains the boxed (processed) food items (from which they make the majority of money). So they will give me $2 off of ANY "packaged cookie or cracker item" of my choice if I would just please venture in there.

And adding to the list...I miss those DK disposable dish cloths.
