One Winner, One Bust

Last week I was trying to eat some superfoods that were new to me. I got myself some sardines, and as suggested by Babs put them on whole wheat bread with butter, and then squeezed some lemon over the top.

It was generally easy to eat, with no overall good or bad flavor. I was also not a fan of the texture of the flaky and scaly skin. But, it was the after-eating time when the fish didn't sit so well with me; just a stinky fishy taste lingering in the back of my throat. I eventually had to have a beer to try to *eat* the flavor away. Obviously, sardines will not be a regular player in my superfood dieting challenge.

Incidentally, the night I had my sardine snack I was planning on making curry. Feeling no appetite in general, the curry had to wait for the following day. But it was worth it. The ingredients:

Cook up the vegetables in a bit of vegetable broth. Then add a can of coconut milk and the spice paste. The Chinese grocery at the Bazaar sells a whole assortment of Thai/Chinese spice packets.

Served over jasmine rice, with shrimp, lime, and cilantro. The only thing missing was the fish sauce. Normally we'd have some on hand, but our fridge here is so small I just can't keep too many condiments in it at one time (milk for the growing boy trumps fish sauce).
