That same day I made some cheesy potatoes. Which or course Pete refused to eat. He like fries, and he likes cheese - just not together or in this form.
For Friday playgroup I was in charge of the Mommy Salad. This is a salad that we don't expect the kids to eat (our new British member was a bit confused my the title at first). I scanned through the Fall section of Jack Bishop's A Year in a Vegetarian Kitchen and found a recipe that peaked my taste buds - Brown Rice & Chickpea Salad with Basil-Curry Dressing. I'd make this recipe again, only I'd go a bit heavier on the almonds and curry.
There was some left over, so for dinner I added sauteed carrots & leeks, and these little Greek sausages we like to eat.
Since last night was Halloween-Eve, I decided to finish up my ghost story - The Ghost Writer. It got a little creepy at the end, with the main character making the classic bad decisions of returning to a vacant home, alone, at night, going down to the cellar, letting the door close behind him with no way out...Dude, bring a friend or a cell pone with you - something!
Anyway, this morning I read a handful of Amazon customer reviews (and one by Bookslut) and I basically feel the same as them. The book was great, up until the end, when it just ended. And with a slew of characters both *real* and fictional (in the stories within the story), I felt like I had totally missed something. I'm happy to know though, I'm not alone in that. And just like others have said, even though the ending was disappointing, it was still a book worth reading.
