Last night I finished reading the The Dive From Clausen's Pier. Before dinner I was *almost* done with the book...and it was all I thought about while making dinner, and eating dinner; I couldn't get it out of my mind.
Even after finishing the book, I dreamt about the story (it wasn't actually *the* story, but you know how dreams go, it was influenced by what I had read). And again today, I had check out Amazon to read reviews by others. It got a whole range of reviews from 5 stars to barely 1. And after looking them over - I have to say I'm in the 4 to 5 star group. I liked the story, I liked the details, and I liked the characters.
I also hate ending a great book. I never know if the next one I pull off the shelf is going to be as satisfying.
(On the book Under The Hawthorn Tree - where the hawthorn played only a faint part (in my mind) ...all I kept thinking was - wasn't the reason for the potato famine sulphur deficiency?)

I finished "The Fire," the sequel to "The Eight." Its fine, but not great and not nearly as good as "The Eight" was. Its fun to see the characters again and of course the chess, but I was hoping it would be a little better.
